Liverpool transfer target Yevhen Konoplyanka provided the sole goal in FC Dnipro's 1-0 Europa League victory over Tottenham Hotspur at the Dnipro Arena in Ukraine on Thursday, February 20 yet, for Spurs boss Tim Sherwood, the scoreline could have been different had it not been for unfavourable pitch conditions.
The Lilywhite visitors had their chances, perhaps none more so than when Roberto Soldado was in an advantageous position just before the hour mark, but the club's summer signing missed the target, shooting high of the crossbar in an effort Sherwood said 'he would have expected to score' from.
Continuing to Sky Sports, Sherwood cited the pitch as a 'disgrace'. He said: 'I haven't seen it [the shot] again but I'm not sure he will be too complimentary about the pitch. I am not using it as an excuse, not for the chance, as both teams played on it but I am sure that it must have played some part in Robbie missing that one.
'The pitch was a disgrace, it is no excuse as both teams had to play on it but it is possibly the worst pitch I have experienced in a long time.'
Spurs now contest the second leg of their European Round of 32 encounter on February 27, in North London, and must score at least twice while keeping their sheet clean in order to guarantee their progression ot the next stage.
'We will score at the Lane, guaranteed, but it depends how many we will have to score,' concluded Sherwood.
