All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from St. James' Park...
Newcastle face a crucial fixture this weekend as they take on Aston Villa at St. James' Park, but the build up to the game has been put to one side today, with mostly transfers being discussed up in the North East.
The question marks surrounding the futures of Loic Remy, Luuk de Jong and Papiss Cisse mean that Newcastle could be in the market for a number of strikers this summer, and a new name being linked with a move to the Magpies is Groningen's starlet Richairo Zivkovic. The 17-year-old has previously been linked with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City, and having been tipped for stardom, would certainly be something of a coup for Newcastle.
But one striker who looks set for the exit is the experienced Shola Ameobi. The Nigerian international will become a free agent in the summer upon the expiration of his contract, and the 32-year-old has admitted that he could be heading away from the club.
“My future is unclear,” he said. “Basically, I’ll do what I’ve always done. I’ve never taken it (playing for Newcastle) for granted. Every time I step on that pitch, I relish it. When it does finally end, it’ll be a sad moment, but at the moment my focus is trying to help this club. That’s what I’ve always tried to do, and that will never change.”
It seems that every day, there are more and more players are being linked with exits from St. James' Park in what could be something of a mass exodus this summer, and it's being reported that long-serving Steven Taylor could be another name on the exit list.
The centre back is considered to be behind Fabrizio Coloccini and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa in the centre-back pecking order for the future, and Taylor could leave the club in the summer, with Queens Park Rangers interested in signing him.
