Nemanja Vidic confirmed earlier this month he will leave Manchester United at the end of the season, marking the closing of a successful chapter for the club.
The centre-back has been a mainstay of their defence since arriving at the club, winning numerous trophies including memorably the 2008 Champions League.
Vidic said he wanted a new challenge, and it appears it will be with Inter Milan in Serie A.
Owner Erick Thohir stated just yesterday that a deal to sign Vidic, who will be a free agent in the summer, is almost complete.
He said: "Vidic? I can not say more than that it is 90 percent done. When everything is completed we will make an announcement. Do not make me say anything that is not concrete yet."
In an interesting twist, it appears that should the Serbian complete his move to Inter, his debut could come against none other than Manchester United.
As part of the club's pre-season tour in the US, the Washington Post reported that on July 29, Inter Milan are scheduled to go head-to-head with Manchester United in an 80,000 seater plus stadium.
Vidic's Serbia national side did not qualify to the World Cup, and so he will not be likely to miss the trip.
The likelihood of Vidic coming up against his soon-to-be former side will certainly add spice to United's pre-season tour, and David Moyes will have to hope he goes easy on his old teammates.
