How Brendan Rodgers is already surpassing Rafa Benitez at Liverpool

Rafael Benitez returns to British soil tonight but has already been surpassed by one of his Liverpool successors.

Benitez's Napoli side take on Swansea City in this evening's Europa League last 16 meeting at the Liberty Stadium but he has made no secret of a desire to someday return to Anfield.

But statistics show that the Spaniard may struggle to displace the man presently in the Reds' hot seat, Brendan Rodgers

Comparisons of the two managers' first 64 Premier League games in charge at Liverpool show an equal win tally of 32 games but current incumbent Rodgers lost five less games than his predecessor, who won the Champions League in his debut season on Merseyside.

And while the former Chelsea and Inter Milan boss conceded 17 less goals in those opening 64 matches, compared to 75 in Rodgers' first 18 months at Anfield, Liverpool have recorded a prolific 137 goals in the past two seasons compared to 84 under Benitez - a difference of 53 strikes.

Rodgers also won the overall points tally by five points, with 114 points accrued compared to Benitez's 109 - which indicates that, statistically at least, the current Kop boss has outdone his illustrious predecessor.
