Report: Spurs man is Inter's key summer target

The latest reports in Italy suggest that Inter coach Walter Mazzarri has made Erik Lamela his priority for the summer.

Inter have struggled this season and saw their Scudetto chances disappear within the first half of the campaign.

Indonesian investor Erik Thohir has proven that he is ready to open his chequebook to remedy the problem after the signing of Hernanes from Lazio and the summer is likely to see frenzied transfer activity.

There have been suggestions that coach Walter Mazzarri may be a casualty of a summer purge, but now his position seems to be safer.

And Thohir may give Mazzarri the say over which players are brought in to galvanise the Nerazzurri squad at the end of the current campaign.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, Mazzarri's first choice addition would be Tottenham's Erik Lamela.

Napoli yesterday ruled out a move for the Argentine attacking midfielder, who has hinted that a return to Serie A may be welcome.

The Corriere reports that Inter narrowly failed to bring Lamela in during January on loan and that they will redouble their efforts in summer.

Lamela has failed to settle in at White Hart Lane and is also injured and will be out of action until late March.

Inter are reportedly in constant contact with Lamela's agent and aim to pounce as soon as the season ends.

It is reported that the alternative is Lyon man Bafetimbi Gomis, whose contract expires in June.
