William Carvalho has reportedly been scouted by Manchester United numerous times this season. So David Moyes’ staff either really like Lisbon, or the 21-year-old Sporting midfielder is seemingly high on his list of transfer targets.
But in all seriousness, William is the ideal player for a United side in desperate need of a defensive midfielder.
It takes considerable effort to get pass him, he is fully aware of how to use his considerable talents, and given his age he still has years to improve.
With a reported release-clause of €45million, he will not come cheap. But the best solutions to the biggest problems rarely do.
And now United have received a potential boost in their apparent pursuit of the player with the news that Sporting Lisbon are casting their eye over possible replacements.
Portuguese newspaper O Jogo claims Estoril midfielder Goncalo is interesting William’s side, for a reported fee of €500,000.
It could be a fantastic piece of business if they sell William for even close to his release-clause.
Goncalo is 27, and he knows the Primeira Liga extremely well. So if the time does come when William departs, it seems his club have his replacement in their sights.
