United teen tipped for stardom by Scholes: It's just like a dream!

Six months into his Manchester United career, right back prospect speaks out…

Apart from making statements that could potentially upset a minority of diehard Manchester United fans, like mention his affection for legends of rival clubs such as Thierry Henry and Didier Drogba, Old Trafford wonderkid Saidy Janko is making all the right moves and saying all the right things since swapping FC Zurich and Switzerland for United and England in September, 2013.

The versatile right-sided player, who is being deployed predominantly on the midfield flank by reserve coach Warren Joyce, may well model himself on Antonio Valencia, due to his pace, acceleration and ability to occupy a number of positions along the touchline.

While he prefers the right back role 'as there is more space', Valencia is not the only accomplished Red Devil looks up to. He told Inside United: 'I look at all the first-team players and watch them off the pitch as well as on it.

'Sometimes, they will do something extra for themselves in the gym or will stay out after training practising crosses or doing separate training with the defenders and attackers. It’s nice to watch them and learn from them.'

There is an aura of maturity and professionalism in statements such as these. So much so, that it belies his teenage years and, while he has been sounded out to follow Adnan Januzaj into the first-team by Paul Scholes, Janko's feet remain firmly grounded.

'It is all like a dream, you know. I think it’s not just about the football – it is everything about the place [Old Trafford] with the history and the fact it is like a huge family. I want to be successful with the Under-21s because we haven’t had many games at that level.

'So I’m looking forward to that.'

In 410 minutes of U21 Premier League football, Janko has supplied two assists for United thus far this term, one of which arrived recently, in the 2-1 win over West Ham United's U21 side.
