The two managers have been bickering back and forth over the past week – with Jose Mourinho arguably stepping over the line by labelling Wenger a ‘specialist in failure’.
Premier League supporters have become accustomed to the on-going feud between the managers, and another sly comment is never too far away.
What started as presumed ‘mind-games’ really took off with Mourinho’s stinging and rather distasteful comments. Nevertheless, he still has the back from some in his corner, and reported by Sambafoot, defender David Luiz believes criticism against his club is born out of jealousy.
He said: "We cannot listen to everyone, because if you listen to another coach, Chelsea don't have just one coach. Chelsea have 10, 20, 100... Everyone wants to be part of our club - and that's natural."
Arsenal boss Wenger’s original comments stemmed from fellow top-four managers Brendan Rodgers and Jose Mourinho ruling out their sides’ chances of winning the Premier League trophy this season – explained by a ‘fear of failure’. Yet Chelsea are now the front-runners, a stance Luiz is happy to burden:
"We are top of the league now, we are happy with this," said the former Benfica defender.
"We keep working hard every day for our job. Of course, I respect everyone, other teams, but we need to do our job. That's it."
Whether the recent comments between the managers have any effect on their teams’ up-coming fixtures remains to be seen, but with a Stamford Bridge date set for the duo towards the end of Match, Premier League fans can expect plenty more fireworks as we enter the business end of the season.
