On the 18th February 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Arsenal and Tottenham.
I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 18th February 2014, but a year earlier.
What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?
Here are some of the big scoops from the 18th February 2013…
Arsene Wenger was undergoing perhaps his biggest hardship during his 16 year reign at Arsenal FC. The club had just been knocked out of the FA Cup by Blackburn Rovers at the weekend and faced a tough Champions League tie against Bayern Munich on the Tuesday.
And he hit out at journalists at his UEFA press conference ahead of the game - as Mikel Arteta stared on awkwardly.
He snapped at rumours of an imminent contract extension:
“The lie is targeted to hurt. It’s easy to say people are not happy and on top of that say he’s extending the contract. That’s what I mean.”
He also snapped at one journalist:
“I look at you not because you give information, I do not know if it is you, I do not know where the information comes from. Why do you look at me? I just thought you had given this information out.”
And when asked about the need to win trophies he stated:
“No, no. I want to lose it, to lose the game tomorrow so you can all be happy.”
A year later and he goes into the exact same game on the exact same day as 12 months previously - and does so in a much more positive frame of mind.
Benteke to White Hart Lane?
Tottenham were said to be looking into the potential services of Christian Benteke.
The Belgian striker was in top form for Aston Villa at the time - and his agent had been talking up a potential move:
“It is normal that if you go to a club and do well, then other clubs will show an interest. Christian has shown that he can play in England so why not take the step up to the next level if the opportunity is there?”
