The Tyneside club have been linked with River Plate prodigy Manuel Lanzini as a possible summer signing.
With the departure of Yohan Cabaye in January, a number of other Newcastle players’ futures hang in the balance.
It is believed that Haten Ben Arfa may well be on his way out of the St James’ Park club this summer, with Alan Pardew’s men in need of creative players regardless of whether the France international leaves or not.
The 21-year-old is a product of the legendary Argentinian club’s youth system, and has been part of the first team since 2010.
After a loan spell in Brazil with Fluminense, Lanzini has returned to his boyhood club and is now an established player in Ramon Diaz’s side.
He also stepped out on four occasions for Argentina under-20’s last year, and as such it seems like only a matter of time before he switches to Europe.
Lanzini would not need a work permit as he has an Italian passport and is valued in the region of £6 million.
