Napoli chief rules out summer move for Tottenham attacker

The San Paolo club’s owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has stated that the Serie A side will not move for Erik Lamela at the end of the season.

Given the amount of money spent on Erik Lamela in the summer, it is understandable that Tottenham fans have been slightly disappointed with the man touted as a potential replacement for Gareth Bale.

The Argentina international has struggled to adapt to life in England, suffered from debilitating injuries and has not been given a consistent run in the Spurs team this season.

With rumblings that the ex-Roma man may well be on his way out of White Hart Lane at the end of the season, one potential suitor has been ruled out of signing Lamela.

Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has stated that although the San Paulo club looked at Lamela, they will not make a move for him in the near future.

“He is not in our plans,” the Napoli chief is quoted as saying by Il Sussidiario.

“We have reinforcements in that role and we will not play checkers with some of our own players.

“I would always love to buy players aged 20 so as to take them by the hand and make them grow. It takes practice, but we have no regrets.”

It will be interesting to see just what Lamela’s fate is at the end of the season, with Tim Sherwood clearly not taking to the player just yet.

The South American attacker is currently injured and is expected to be on the sidelines for another month.
