Reports from Italy are claiming that Liverpool have made an offer to Bacary Sagna to sign him next season.
The Frenchman is out of contract at the end of the season and is free to negotiate with clubs. Arsenal have not given up on re-signing the right-back but he is so far yet to commit.
Now Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio and colleague Fabrizio Romano, who have been following the story from an Inter Milan perspective, claim that Liverpool have made him an offer, seeking to sign him on a free transfer.
The news breaking will be an unwelcome distraction for Sagna heading into a crucial Champions League clash with Bayern Munich, although despite his ongoing contractual issues he has maintained his high levels of form of late.
Liverpool's right-back situation remains in doubt long-term with Glen Johnson's contract set to expire in a year's time. The club had been strongly linked to Barcelona's Martin Montoya, also a free agent in the summer, but he appears at this point most likely to re-sign with the La Liga champions.
Sagna has yet to comment publicly on his future plans, and has also been linked repeatedly to PSG. It would be a surprise to see him sign for another Premier League club, and Arsenal will surely do all they can to persuade him to stay rather than sign with Liverpool.
