We gauge the largely tongue-in-cheek reaction to news Vince McMahon might just be about to take over at St James Park ... no chance in hell!?!
Imagine my concern when I logged onto Twitter this morning for the first time in eight days and spotted that the legend of my youth that is Vince McMahon was the number one trending topic in the UK - usually that means something less than favourable has occurred to the person in question.
However on this occasion it was something far more bizarre - because the World Wrestling Entertainment owner and tycoon is reportedly looking into taking a controlling stake in Newcastle United FC.
Mike Ashley is said to be ready to sell the club as fans continue to be disillusioned with his running of the club.
But the news is likely to make some fans feeling ‘Stone Cold’ about the idea of McMahon being ‘The Rock’ that can help NUFC make an improved impact on the ‘Big Show’.
This is not the first time he has reportedly seen Newcastle as a viable business venture - as he seeks to establish his interests in the UK on a more recognisable basis than ultra-mesomorphs throwing each other through plasterboard tables in leotards.
The rumours suggest he sees St James Park as a potential venue for British WWE events - as he seeks to use the company’s popularity in the UK to help their flagging ratings.
Although it might need to be noted to McMahon that the results in Premier League football - however much they may sometimes seem scripted - are actually not pre-determined.
This is not going to be another XFL experiment.
The likelihood remains that this is yet another fanciful and rather amusing distraction at St James and not anything concrete.
But what do fans think about the apparent Newcastle link on Twitter?
It doesn’t matter what you think!
