Arsenal's not-so-secret weapon vs Bayern: 1 goal, 2 assists in 1 win!

Ozil Arsenal 8

German trequartista has some good victories over Bayern Munich on his CV… with Werder Bremen and with Real Madrid.

At a time when Mesut Ozil faces criticism from multiple fronts - for his inconsistent performances throughout the Premier League season and his apparent failure to show up in big games - the £42.4m Arsenal signing may well be key to any success the Gunners hope to have when they face Bayern Munich in the first of two Champions League Round of 16 legs, competed at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, February 19.

Ozil has represented four clubs as a professional and, tomorrow night, will once again line up against a team he has played against for Werder Bremen, for Schalke 04 and for Real Madrid.

While his personal record against the Bavaria kings reads: 2 wins, 4 draws and 5 losses with 14 goals scored against 25 goals conceded, he has been responsible for some fine performances against the Treble-winning Germans from last season.

When Real Madrid met Bayern in the Champions League in 2012, for instance, the Bundesliga side may have won both legs, but Ozil scored at the Allianz Arena in the first leg (2-1) a fortnight before providing an assist at the Santiago Bernabeu (4-3).

Ozil's finest hour against Bayern, though, was in 2008, again at the Allianz Arena, when Ozil played for Werder and not only scored, but also provided two assists in a 5-2 goal-fest. He was brought off to great applause from the away end after 76 minutes.
