It was supposed to be a close fought battle, but Paris Saint-Germain have made easy work of the German side, winning 4-0 in the BayArena.
The game may technically only be at half-time but Paris Saint-Germain have put one foot into the Quarter-Finals of the Champions League, beating German side Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the BayArena.
Before the tie, most had PSG down as favourites to qualify over the two legs, but few would have called the first-leg result correctly despite Leverkusen's poor run of form.
Blaise Matuidi gave the away side the perfect start, finishing neatly after his well-timed run left him completely free inside the Leverkusen penalty box. Midfielder Marco Verratti played the perfect ball and Matuidi calmly tucked away the chance.
Leverkusen looked to have recovered well from going a goal down and had enjoyed a good bulk of possession, but they were dealt a killer blow just five minutes before the half-time whistle. Emir Spahic has judged to have fouled Ezequiel Lavezzi, the referee pointed to the spot. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who else, converted the spot-kick.
Then it was the great Swede's turn to twist the knife further into the Leverkusen wound, and end the tie as a contest. After good work from Matuidi to hold the ball up, he laid it off to Zlatan, and he did the rest. On his weaker left-foot he drilled the ball past Bernd Leno, the Leverkusen 'keeper had no chance.
With the game well out of Leverkusen’s reach, the second-half offered nothing of any note until the last few minutes when Yohan Cabaye sealed the deal with his first for PSG, making it 4-0 on the night. Lucas Moura collected the ball on the right, laid it off perfectly for the former Newcastle United man and Cabaye tucked it away into the top corner.
4-0 the Full-Time score and twitter was full of praise for PSG's performance, with special praise reserved for that man, Ibrahimovic.
