West Ham midfielder still hoping for a World Cup place

West Ham United midfielder Antonio Nocerino has been speaking about his hopes for the rest of the season.

West Ham loan signing Antonio Nocerino has revealed one of the reasons he opted for a January switch to Upton Park.

Speaking to Radio Deejay, the Italian midfielder said, “One of the reasons I came to West Ham and to the Premier League is to play on a regular basis.

“My first objective is to play for West Ham and help the club move up the table.

“From that, if I am playing well and I get picked to go to the World Cup in Brazil, that will be an added bonus.”

Nocerino has 15 caps for his country and has appeared for some of Serie A’s most famous sides. Most recently at AC Milan, the 28-year-old has had to make do with cameo appearances for the Hammers to date.

He has played just 52 minutes of football in four Premier League matches, but it is clear he hopes to break into the first-team and see where that takes him.

With Brazil 2014 fast-approaching, Nocerino will be just one of many players with an eye on the tournament; and his desire to add to his caps could benefit West Ham, who are in need of a good end to a season that has not always gone according to plan.
