Poll: £70.2m in total! Does Rooney deserve £300,000-a-week deal at United?

Rooney Warm Up

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is reportedly on the verge of signing a new long-term contract at the club.

Reports over the weekend and today claimed Wayne Rooney was set to sign a new contract at Manchester United, which would see his wages rise to £300,000-a-week for the next four-and-a-half years.

There have been considerable doubts over the long-term future of the striker since Sir Alex Ferguson said he had asked to leave at the end of last season.  And yet his successor David Moyes has stood firm in the face of interest from Chelsea, and it now appears he will be able to call on his former Everton player until Rooney is well into his thirties.

The deal is reportedly yet to be signed - despite some claims on Saturday to the contrary - but with the number of media outlets suggesting an announcement is imminent it would be a considerable shock if whatever deal is on the table goes unsigned.

The deal is reportedly a four-and-a-half year contract that would amount to a staggering £70.2million in total wages.  But the question is, is he worth it?
