As strange as that sounds, it's true. The Chelsea boss has talked up City's chances of making it through to the Champions League quarter-finals, claiming that they are about to face the "worst Barcelona side of many many years."
Indeed, while Mourinho admits Barca are favourites based on "history," the Portuguese says this season's form shows the Catalan club are nowhere near the heights of their illustrious past.
And though the 51-year-old is wary of the damage a certain Lionel Messi can do to any team, Mourinho rates City's chances because Barcelona, overall, are not the same as in previous years.
"Of course by history Barcelona is the favourite but this Barcelona, this season, is showing that it is not the same in previous years," Mourinho told ITV Sport.
"Of course they have Messi, he is special, and they have more than him. But I think this is the worst Barcelona of many many years, so City have a chance."
It is not unlike the Chelsea boss to criticise Barcelona - Mourinho spent three years at Real Madrid doing it almost as a living.
But, once again, there could be an added incentive on the Special One's part with his latest comments. Simply put, if Man City progress past Barcelona, their schedule will be further extended - and they will have less energy for the Premier League title race.
Or it could just be a case of Mourinho supporting his fellow British clubs. There's a first time for everything...
