New Nerazzurri owner Erick Thohir’s regime have seen its fair share of criticism already, particularly surrounding the abandoned January swap with Juventus involving Fredy Guarin and Mirko Vucinic.
Despite the high-profile incident, however the Indonesian magnate was able to secure the services of playmaker Hernanes from Lazio, and appears primed to continue looking to add experience to coach Walter Mazzarri’s squad.
Recent talk has suggested that the San Siro giants have all but agreed personal terms with departing Manchester United stalwart Nemanja Vidic whilst contact has been made with fellow Red Devils veteran Patrice Evra.
And now a move for yet another England-based stopper has been mooted - Calciomercato claiming that Inter have eyes for forgotten Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen.
Links had emerged between the two parties as early as October, whilst fellow Serie A side Napoli reportedly had an offer for the Belgian rejected in January.
French outlet Le10Sport have maintained that Vermaelen - who has made just three league starts this term will be seeking a transfer.
Inter are set to lose long time servant Walter Samuel in the summer as Andrea Ranocchia is yet to live up to the €19m splashed out for him and has repeatedly been tipped for a move elsewhere.
Vermaelen himself had been valued in the region of €14m at the outset of the campaign, but given a lack of activity coupled with a transfer request, could depart the Emirates for considerably less.
