Free agent Manchester United target's future depends on ex-Red Devil - report

Javier Pastore, Thiago Silvar, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Blaise Matuidi unveiled at PSG

Does the future of Blaise Matuidi hinge on Paul Pogba?

The curious case of Blaise Matuidi drags on, the PSG midfielder whose contract expires in June, yet publicly insists he is happy at the club.

An integral part of their midfield, the 26-year-old has made 25 starts this season and the fact he has not yet signed a new deal so far from the outside appears a little peculiar.

The Frenchman has been linked resultantly with a move to Manchester United, who would dearly love for a talent of his quality in the centre of midfield to anchor the team around.

Chelsea, prior to signing Nemanja Matic, were also claimed to be monitoring the situation as were Manchester City.

He has kept his place in the side as a starter despite Yohan Cabaye's January arrival, playing 90 minutes in the recent 1-1 draw with Monaco.

So just why has he not yet signed a new contract? Well it is speculated in France that it has something to do with uncertainty regarding a former Red Devil, Juventus sensation Paul Pogba.

Pogba has emerged as a genuine superstar in Turin, and there is repeatedly claimed to be a huge desire at PSG to bring him back to France where he left Le Havre as a teen.

Pogba would cost in the region of £40-60 million, and command high wages, and PSG would have to find him a starting spot. Matuidi could well be the one to make way.

French newspaper L'Equipe report that Matuidi is keen to re-sign with PSG, yet the question mark over Pogba's potential arrival is causing him to hold back, arguing it could be a potentially decisive factor.

Whether PSG will manage to re-sign Pogba this summer is certainly up in the air, with Juventus aiming to tie him down to an improved deal. Links to Arsenal or Manchester United certainly seem fanciful at best.

Yet how about this for a dream scenario for the Red Devils... PSG sell them Cavani to finance a deal for Pogba as to comply with Financial Fair Play rules, whose arrival then forces Matuidi to Old Trafford as a free agent.

You may need to find a good bookies to offer you short odds on that happening though...
