Chelsea morning news: Interest in £50m striker but who makes way if he arrives?

A round up of news stories this morning about Chelsea.

The Express has suggested that Demba Ba and Romelu Lukaku could be axed to help fund a move for PSG striker Edinson Cavani.

News broke over the weekend that the Blues were reportedly trying to get a deal sorted, which would go through before the World Cup.

The fee being mentioned is around the £50 million mark which means the Blues may have to offload players before they can go after the transfer.

Jose Mourinho has defended Belgian Eden Hazard, claiming he tried everything to affect last Saturday’s game against Manchester City.

Several Chelsea players have come in for criticism following the 2-0 defeat at the Etihad but Mourinho has leapt to the defence of his star player.

“The kid tried everything by dropping back, coming into the midfield, but was more difficult for him to beat one, two, three guys,” revealed the boss.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has hit back in the ward of words between himself and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho branded the Frenchman a ‘specialist in failure’ last week in response to Wenger’s claim that Mourinho was afraid of failure.

“I didn’t speak about him at all in my press conference and I have not more to say. Let’s focus on things that are worth of it in football. I am more disappointed for Chelsea than for me,” said Wenger.
