Manchester United linked Ivan Rakitic matched an unwanted record of Chelsea's Samuel Eto'o.
Manchester United showed against Sunderland last month in the League Cup their poor record at scoring from the spot, in addition to their already known central midfield woes.
One man who has been linked with solving the latter is Sevilla's impressing Croatian, Ivan Rakitic - rated by his club at €40 million.
Yet if he does sign in the summer, David Moyes should do one thing, and ensure Rakitic is not placed on penalty duty.
In La Liga last night, the 25-year-old missed a penalty in a 0-0 home draw with Valencia, earning himself a share of an unwanted record.
It was the third penalty Rakitic has missed this season, all of which would have seen his personal goal tally increase from 10 to 13.
It's a level of notoriety the midfielder won't welcome however, after previous misses against Real Madrid and Levante.
The unwanted feat has occurred before in La Liga, with the last player to miss three penalties in a season being Chelsea striker Samuel Eto'o, reveal Mundo Deportivo.
Eto'o missed three in the 2008/09 season, which proved to be his final season with Barcelona before being sold to Inter Milan, but not before he fired the club to a Champions League trophy.
Few can deny Rakitic's talent, with seven assists to his name this season, but just as Eto'o showed before him - even some of the very best players are far from infallible from 12 yards.
