Manchester United are reportedly hoping Juventus somehow lose their collective mind and sell them both Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba in the summer. At least that is if you believe the gossip columns.
But the Express reported last month that David Moyes was widening his search just in case he is unable to secure the Chilean, the Frenchman, or both.
That alternative was Napoli play-maker Marek Hamsik – a 26-year-old Slovakian with quite the eye for an assist.
Last season, Hamsik set up 22 goals for his teammates, netting 13 of his own for good measure. But this year has seen something of a drop in form – due in no small part to a foot injury that saw him miss eight matches.
Prior to that setback, he had scored six times in Serie A, although he had failed to provide an assist since the opening day.
But that has now changed, with Hamsik influential in Napoli’s 2-0 victory over Sassuolo on Sunday.
The midfielder set up both goals, for Blerim Dzemaili and Lorenzo Insigne, and ensured his side took a much-needed three points in the race to pip Roma to second spot. And in so doing, he may also have piqued Moyes’ interest.
After all, it appears the player who was once something of an assist-king may have just got his mojo back.
