Belgian international Marouane Fellaini hasn’t had the best of starts to his Manchester United career.
The Red Devils have been screaming out for a new central midfielder for the best part of five years, and when Moyes decided to shell out £27.5m on Fellaini in the summer, expectations were naturally quite high.
The 26-year-old joined Manchester United on September 2nd in what was a dramatic last-minute deadline day deal. It was, however, a tough time to join Manchester United as the Red Devils were coming off the back of a 1-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield, and had also played out an uneventful 0-0 draw at home to Chelsea. A creative midfield was the club's top priority – unfortunately for Fellaini, he doesn’t appear to fit that role well.
The Belgian made his debut against Palace, before starting in Manchester United’s impressive 4-2 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League. However, a 4-1 mauling at neighbours Manchester City in the Premier League a few days later once again showed up Manchester United’s soft centre.
Fellaini has since picked up numerous injuries – including a back problem which ruled him out for the entire festive period. In fact, the 6ft 4inch midfielder has started just four Premier League games, making one key pass and 13 shots without finding the net – a stat which clearly hasn’t endeared him to the fans.
Moyes has been quoted by Manchester United’s official Twitter account of ‘probably including Fellaini in the squad’ for the Red Devils’ trip to Stoke City. However, the possibility has certainly divided opinion among the club's fans.
Here are some tweets regarding Fellaini’s probable inclusion in the squad:
