Arsenal fan Piers Morgan thanked referee Howard Webb on Twitter for his role in Arsenal’s 2-1 FA Cup win against Liverpool.
Webb awarded Liverpool a penalty for a foul on Luis Suarez from Lukas Podolski then refused the Anfield side a second spot kick for an obvious foul from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the Uruguayan striker.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was furious, verbally attacking Webb after the final whistle but Morgan couldn’t help but revel in the referee’s glaring error.
“I'm not sure if it's because it was just after that but it was certainly a clear penalty. Luis has just got a touch on the ball and Alex has just taken him inside the box in front of the referee's eyes, so it was a strange decision,” Rodgers told BT Sport after the game.
“A shocker from one of this country’s supposed best referees,” added commentator Andy Gray during BT Sport’s live coverage of the match.
Arsenal now move on to the first leg of their last 16 Champions League game against Bayern Munich this week with confidence restored and momentum in the bank.

Clear penalty. So most amusing. Thank you, Mr Webb. #afc— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) February 16, 2014
Of course, I hadn't factored in Wenger's secret January transfer window striker signing > Howard Webb.— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) February 16, 2014
