Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini is expected to return to the starting line-up against Liverpool later today following suspension.
The French midfielder has missed the club’s last three games following the red card he received for a poor challenge on Morgan Schneiderlin when the Gunners recently took on Southampton.
His absence created a chance for Mikel Arteta to come into the holding role, but the Spaniard has looked tired in recent games and Wenger is likely to want to protect him later today ahead of the Champions League game against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
A good performance from Flamini today could put him in the frame to start that game ahead of Arteta, as he could inject passion and aggression into the back four, making it very difficult for any of Bayern’s key stars to get time and space in possession.
Whichever way Wenger decides to go, there’s no doubt his return is a positive.
