All the news, views and transfer rumours from Old Trafford this weekend…

Every morning we bring you a round-up of the latest news and transfer rumours relating to Manchester United, and this weekend was no exception. To read our United-specific morning news you can find our Saturday report here and our Sunday report here.

But there really is only one place to start this evening, and that is with the reports claiming Wayne Rooney is set to commit his long-term future to the club.

The Sun reported this morning that Rooney had already agreed a new deal worth £300,000-a-week.

But the reigning champions have since dismissed those claims, stating that talks are ongoing.

As reported by Sky Sports, a United spokesman said, “There is no deal, which is why we haven’t announced it.”

But the BBC appears to think it is only a matter of time before there is something to report, with their website claiming Rooney is close to signing a deal that will keep him at Old Trafford until he is well into his thirties.

In other news, the Star on Sunday reports that Darren Fletcher believes Moyes needs to show faith in his current crop of players.

The United manager is being tipped to make quite a splash in the summer transfer window, but Fletcher is quoted as saying, “It can be a quick turnaround. Back then (prior to United’s 2009 success) the manager saw the potential that was there, believed it could happen and stuck with us.

“He believed in us and the more games we got, the more experience we got.

Speaking of the current side he said, “We have got to get a bit of confidence back in our game, a little self-belief, and that’s about experienced players who have been there and done it coming through with the younger ones.”
