All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad this weekend…
Manchester City got back to winning ways on Saturday, beating Chelsea 2-0 in the fifth-round of the FA Cup.
It was revenge of sorts after Jose Mourinho’s men had ended their unbeaten run at the Etihad Stadium earlier this month.
Goals from Stevan Jovetic and Samir Nasri sealed the win and, talking after the match, manager Manuel Pellegrini gave one of the reasons for the success.
Speaking to the BBC he said of the postponed league game against Sunderland, “It was very important for us not to play. We were not fresh after 18 games in two months.
“But in training on Thursday and Friday we were fresh again. I knew then we could have a good day against Chelsea.”
Chelsea boss Mourinho also agreed, saying, “It was clear there was a difference in freshness between the teams.
“One team played two days ago and another team played last week and had one week without competitive football.”
Not that City were complaining about that.
Following the draw for the quarter-finals of the competition, City will face the team they met in last year's final - Wigan Athletic.
The England defender’s future has been in question for some time and the latest report claims City will be willing to let him leave for £8million.
And finally, Pellegrini has dismissed reports linking City with a move for Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes.
Speaking to Spanish newspaper Marca, when asked about a player soon to leave the Nou Camp, the City boss replied, “For now we are not thinking about it. In the last four months we have been linked with half the goalkeepers in the world.”
