The Ivorian, who stands at over two metres in height, scored just four minutes into his first appearance in a blue shirt against Swansea City in the FA Cup.
Sylvain Distin had squared the ball across the penalty box and Traore was on hand to skilfully back-heel it home, giving Everton a 1-0 lead in a game they eventually won 3-1 to progress through to the quarter-finals.
And yet many Toffees fans were left unhappy with the 23-year-old's overall display, with several complaining about his work-rate and technique, while others thought he stopped trying after his goal.
Others were more objective, defending Traore's lack of match fitness by explaining that he hasn't played in three months due to the winter break in Russia, with some fans declaring their happiness with the debutant overall.
Everton defender Leighton Baines, for one, was delighted with the Ivorian's contribution, telling ITV Sport:
"It was great for him to get off the mark so early on. It's great to have his presence up there, the manager's now got options."

Good first match for Lacina Traore.— Mr Frug (@Marfrug) February 16, 2014
Traore didn't have a great game overall, but that has to be one of the all time great Everton debut goals.— James. (@radioheadlol) February 16, 2014
Grandad said on the way home that Traore was one of the worst EFC players he'd ever seen, bit overstated but wasn't overly impressed by him— Matt (@matt_efc_1878) February 16, 2014
Lacklustre from #EFC today. Might have got a debut goal but Traore doesn't look up to it. Nor does Joel— Liam Prenderville (@Prendo_10) February 16, 2014
I didn't think Traore looked too bad. Clearly rusty and not match fit but he put himself about.— Marc Roche (@Rochey_efc) February 16, 2014
Can't judge Traoré after 60 minutes of playing, still not fully fit, got a goal anyway, he'll be sound when he's fit. #EFC— Tom (@TF1878) February 16, 2014
What did you make of Traore's debut for Roberto Martinez's side?
