Real Madrid are reportedly planning a summer bid to sign Juventus' Arturo Vidal.
‘Plan V’ is how Marca have titled a story today relating to Manchester United transfer target Arturo Vidal.
The Juventus midfielder has been in world class form this season producing 11 goals and six assists from 23 appearances in Serie A, which has led to plenty of speculation about the sides apparently interested in him.
The bad news for Manchester United is that the pro-Madrid paper suggests on their website that Los Blancos are preparing a heavy assault on Juventus to sign the 26-year-old in the summer.
“Arturo Vidal is again one of Real Madrid's top transfer targets. Ancelotti was already interested in the Chilean last summer, but his price tag, Illarramendi's arrival at the Bernabeu, the pre-contract with Dortmund for Gundogan (effective from 30th June) and Bale's signing made it impossible to bring in the Italian coach's coveted transfer target,” reads the opening of Marca’s report.
Real Madrid will have an edge over Manchester United in the race to sign Vidal, especially if David Moyes’ men don’t manage to finish in the top four by the end of the Premier League season.
Vidal has also shone in the Champions League with five goals in six games, which has provided him with another platform to grab attention and create headlines. United are a huge and well respected football club but the European competition is something that the Chilean is quickly growing used to.
“However, signing Vidal from Juve will be no easy feat. The Chilean is the 'Bianconeri's' flagship player and he has just signed a new three-and-a-half year deal worth €7m per season after tax. Vidal is Juventus' highest-paid player, ahead of Tévez and the deal would cost over €60m,” the report continues.
Real Madrid are in the fortunate position where that fee is less of an issue for them than it would be for other clubs.
The Spanish giants have shown several times in the past that they are capable of paying huge fees for top players with over £160 million spent to land Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United and Gareth Bale from Tottenham Hotspur.
It’s also important to remember that the deal could feasibly be part financed through the sale of key players with Sami Khedira, Angel Di Maria and Karim Benzema among those frequently linked with moves away from the club.
If Vidal’s agent is willing to talk in the summer then Manchester United are one of the sides who would be interested but if Real Madrid flex their muscles when it comes to the transfer market, they quite often get who they want.
