The Frenchman is out of a contract at Old Trafford in the summer and is widely believed to be set for a departure, citing “personal” reasons back in October when quizzed on his future.
Boss David Moyes had already looked to bring in a new left-back - particularly Leighton Baines - seemingly sending a message to the 32-year-old that the management is keen to find a long-term replacement.
Evra has been heavily tipped for a move back to former club Monaco, where he would join a wealthy outfit following in the footsteps of nouveau-riche PSG in Ligue 1.
But other suitors have reportedly been circling in hopes of landing the highly-experienced defender, particularly struggling Serie A giants Inter - who are also thought to be close to landing current team-mate Nemanja Vidic.
On Friday the Daily Mail alleged that Nerazzurri director of sport Piero Ausilio had traveled to London midweek to watch the France international in action against Arsenal.
And now the French press has claimed that contact has been initiated between Evra and the San Siro outfit - Top Mercato reporting that the Inter hierarchy have begun the exploratory process.
Yet the competition already arrived, with Monaco already having made an enquiry, so Inter could have a battle on their hands to bring in their man.
Given Evra’s past with Monaco and the great likelihood that the Principality outfit will secure Champions League football for next term the veteran seems to have better incentive to make the French Riviera his next destination.
However, Vidic could possibly prove a factor in striking a deal with the Italians - if his reportedly imminent signing is indeed announced and the Serbian can persuade his fellow United man to follow suit.
