Chelsea won’t be playing at Wembley this season after a disappointing performance saw the Blues dumped out of the FA Cup at the hands of Manchester City.
Jose Mourinho named a strong side but several players struggled to make an impact for the club, as goals from Stevan Jovetic and Samir Nasri were enough to see City over the line.
Focus for Chelsea now switches to the game against Everton this weekend before the first leg of their last 16 Champions League game against Turkish giants Galatasaray.
Here are our player ratings for Chelsea against City this evening.
Peter Cech 5/10
Made a couple of uncharacteristic errors including a fumble from a Yaya Toure shot in the first half, which saw Jovetic scrape the bar with the rebound.
Branislav Ivanovic 5/10
Resisted the urge to move inside which helped funnel the play into central areas. Struggled to get forward and looked tired in the second 45 minutes.
Gary Cahill 5/10
Got squared up far too easily for City’s second goal. Another who looked a little tired and lethargic against the zippy, quick, pass and move football City displayed.
David Luiz 6/10
One of the only players in the Chelsea side to show a bit of aggression and willingness to get stuck in. Let his temper get the better of him a couple of times.
Cesar Azpilicueta 5/10
As poor a game as I’ve seen him have for a long time. For someone who has looked so steady at left-back, he looked a little lost. Got dragged inside far too many times which left acres of space down the right for City to exploit.
City seemed to make a point of putting a really strong, physical presence right in his face as soon as he got possession. Never coped and went looking for the ball.
Didn’t really have any impact on the game at all and it was no surprise to see him pulled off during the second half.
John Obi Mikel 5/10
Got into the game a little more in the second half but another usually reliable player who went missing. Didn’t do enough to combat City’s powerful midfield.
Nemanja Matic 6/10
Looks like a beast and generally plays like one. Tried to get stuck in and break up the play, unfortunately for him when he moved possession on, it came straight back at him very quickly.
Eden Hazard 6/10
City pressed him whenever he got the ball, not giving him much room to breathe but when he found space there were glimmers that he could make something happen. There just weren’t enough of those moments.
Samuel Eto’o 4/10
He’ll have better games of football to say the least. Obviously tired in the first 45 minutes, didn’t really look up for the fight.
Mohamed Salah 4/10
Can’t really remember him having too many touches of the ball. Good pace but got brushed off the ball too easily. Needs to toughen up.
Fernando Torres 4/10
Worked hard and tried to make things happen up front. Isolated and starved of the ball. Should really have come on instead of Salah.
Oscar – N/A
Thrown on with 20 minutes to go. Didn’t have any major impact.
