Carlo Ancelotti has explained why Isco hasn't featured in his Real Madrid side in the recent past.
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti explained the temporary absence of 21-year-old attacking midfielder earlier today at a press conference ahead of Real Madrid’s game against Getafe.
The €33 million rated midfielder has seen his status at the Spanish club change completely from the start of the season when he was featuring regularly as a starter for the Italian coach.
However, Ancelotti has revealed there is a simple reason Isco isn’t playing at the moment.
“Isco is on the bench for technical reasons because he doesn't fit into our current system but he played well against Atletico. The perfect position for Isco is as an attacking midfielder. I haven't forgotten the goals he scored at the start of the season,” said the Italian when asked about the Spaniard.
Isco is on a very long contract at Real Madrid and his stats, despite an inconsistent number of starts, have been impressive this season; eight goals and six assists across La Liga and the Champions League.
Any side that is interested in going after him in the summer will have to go up against a coach who wants to keep him and someone in Real Madrid president Florentino Perez who will set a ridiculous fee in the process of negotiations.
Isco has been pushed back because the form from the likes of Luka Modric, Sami Khedira and Xabi Alonso through the middle has been so consistent.
Outside of that trio, he’s never going to start as a winger ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo or Gareth Bale and certainly not as a centre forward ahead of Karim Benzema, who Ancelotti confirmed, yet again, he’s happy with.
Don’t believe any Isco related rumours you see over the coming months unless they come from an absolutely concrete source such as the player, Ancelotti or official announcements from any club involved.
