Derby County and Leicester City are reportedly in a two horse race to sign experienced defender Paulo Ferreira on a free transfer after being without a club since his release from Chelsea in the summer.
According to reports in The Express, the 35-year-old versatile defender is keen to get back on the pitch after training with Chelsea and in Portugal. Along with the interest from the East Midlands rivals, Brighton, Reading and Fulham are also supposed to be monitoring the situation.
Ferreira would be a fantastic acquisition for any Football League side and will come with a wealth of experience which is likely to aid both clubs talented young defenders.
The Portuguese defender's career has be laced with prestigious trophies, including two Champions League wins, three Premier League titles, two Europa League titles and international honours with Portugal which include a runners-up medal in the UEFA European Championship.
Derby County and Leicester are amongst the top three favourites to win promotion to the Premier League this season and with just 16 games left to play in the Championship he could prove to be the difference between an automatic spot and play-off position for the Rams and push Leicester over the line for a title win.
