A round up of the latest news and transfer stories about Liverpool from the past 24 hours.
Brendan Rodgers brushed off suggestions he would field a weakened team against Arsenal in the FA Cup this weekend. There had been reports suggesting Rodgers would make several changes to his first team but he's insisted that's not the case.
"Not really (when questioned on resting players), we want to win the FA Cup. Thats our objective. We have no midweek games. We can go as strong as we want to go. We wont need to rest anyone," said the boss.
The boss also laughed off recent suggestions from Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho that his side are the favourites in the title race because they don't play in the Champions League.
"It's getting stupid now isn't it? We've shown that you need energy and commitment to be at the top of the table - and quality, and we've got those three components - You focus on your team" he said.
Rodgers continues to be tipped for a potential new contract to stay at Liverpool. The boss was asked about his future earlier in the week, saying it’s not something he’s concerned about. Reports suggest a new deal could be worth £2.5 million per year to the 41-year-old.
“In the wider areas in particular there is enormous competition for places. At the moment we are talking about Raheem (Sterling) and Adam (Johnson)” Hodgson is quoted by the Telegraph.
Chelsea boss Mourinho has admitted that Liverpool are one of the favourites in the Premier League title race. The Portuguese coach says it’s a four horse race between Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City.
“I am sure it is a four-horse race now. They have a big advantage because they don’t play in the Champions League,” said Mourinho.
Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson is playing down his team’s title chances, revealing the squad is quietly confident over pulling off a title winning campaign.
“We'll never say never. We are quietly confident in every game we go into but we just have to keep doing what we're doing and concentrate on ourselves. We have been playing well of late and our confidence is flying,” he told the Echo.
In transfer news, Liverpool have been offered a little hope in their pursuit of FC Porto star Fernando. Everton have reportedly withdrawn their interest which means Liverpool are right in the mix to sign the midfielder along with Chelsea and Manchester City.
Sevilla star and Liverpool target Federico Fazio is being tipped to join Spanish champions Barcelona. The 26-year-old is rated as one of the best centre backs in La Liga at the moment but teammate Diego Perotti says he can see him settling down at the Nou Camp.
