Serie A giants Juventus are reportedly still interested in trying to sign Manchester United striker Robin Van Persie.
The recent news that Nemanja Vidic wouldn’t be staying at the club appears to have sparked speculation that other first team stars could be in line to walk away from Old Trafford with Van Persie one of the names in question.
Juventus tried to sign Van Persie back in the summer when Sir Alex Ferguson snapped him up and there’s a very good reason United should consider letting him go to Italy.
That reason is the idea that it could give United and David Moyes an edge if they are keen on bringing Paul Pogba back to Old Trafford.
Pogba’s previous issues with United related to the old regime under Ferguson and United would be in a position to give him what they couldn’t guarantee before; regular first team football.
Pogba’s impact since he joined Juventus has been superb and he’s already produced six goals and eight assists from 23 Serie A games this season.
At 20-years-old he’s definitely a long term prospect for his former club and someone who could form the spine of Manchester United’s midfield for several years to come.
The stumbling block is obviously Champions League football because Pogba has grown used to a high profile in that competition (six games, three assists this season) at a young age.
Van Persie has been linked with other moves away with one of the most high profile rumours doing the rounds that he’d be interested in going back to Arsenal at the end of the season.
However, United are unlikely to make the same mistake Arsenal did when they originally sold the Dutchman and that’s letting him go to a Premier League rival, which makes a foreign deal preferable.
It’s a potential deal which would probably cost United Van Persie and a transfer fee but it would give them an edge over other sides trying to buy Pogba this summer.
Would axing Van Persie to bring back Pogba be a good idea? Have your say and vote below.
