Watch out Wenger! £20m Arsenal strike target bags hat-trick in demolition

Arsenal linked striker Mario Mandzukic showed he is in superb form with a hat-trick in the German Cup.

Mario Mandzukic was listed by The Mail a week ago as a top striker on Arsene Wenger's summer shortlist, as he searches for a striker to boost the Gunners' squad.

Mandzukic is potentially expendable at Munich in light of Robert Lewandowski's summer arrival, but he's clearly not going to give up his starting place without a fight.

He scored a hat-trick for Bayern Munich last night in their 5-0 away demolition of Hamburg, taking his tally for the season to 18 goals, the exact same number as soon-to-be teammate Lewandowski.

Arsenal will no doubt have had scouts watching the game, but for more pressing reasons.

They take on Bayern Munich next week, and face a Bayern side in rampant form, winning 5-0 for the second time in three matches.

Mandzukic was superb, hitting the target with four of his five shots on goal, scoring three. For comparison, Olivier Giroud had five efforts against Manchester United, and missed the target every time.

The Croatian provided two key passes, and completed 89 per cent of his total passes, with Dante and Arjen Robben also finding the scoresheet.

Bayern's form, in contrast to Arsenal's not-so-great start to the month is a little ominous for them, and they will have to find a way to slow down Mandzukic next week, or as he showed last night he will make the opposition pay.
