A round up of the latest news and transfer stories about Liverpool from the past 24 hours.
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has revealed he is scared of getting injured and missing the World Cup this summer. The striker is expected to be a key part of the Uruguay side that will face England in the group stage.
“The truth is that I am scared of what happened to Falcao and Walcott. But you live in the present and you always give your best for your club - you can't be thinking about that all the time,” he told Sport 890 AM.
Suarez also claims that the reported race row between himself and Manchester United defender Patrice Evra was ‘false’. The striker says he’s made two mistakes in his career, not including the apparent incident with the Frenchman.
“Let me tell you, I've made only two mistakes in my career. My first was when I was playing for Ajax and I bit an opponent. My second was when I bit (Branislav) Ivanovic,” he added.
Brendan Rodgers is targeting nothing less than the FA Cup final ahead of Liverpool’s game against Arsenal this weekend. The Reds have the upper hand over the Gunners having just thrashed them in the Premier League and the boss wants the side to make it all the way to Wembley.
Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard has claimed that the side need to defend more effectively away from home. Gerrard scored a last gasp penalty to rescue the points against Fulham after the side had conceded two goals.
“I don't think we defended well enough but we showed plenty of guts and we never gave up. If you do that, more often than not you get the breaks - and we got one in the end. It was a great win for us,” he told the Liverpool website.
The performance has left Tottenham Hotspur head coach Tim Sherwood stating that Liverpool are the side to beat in the race for Champions League football ahead of next season.
In transfer news, Paris Saint-Germain defender Lucas Digne is being linked with a move to Anfield. The 20-year-old only move to PSG last summer but rumours have started circulating that Liverpool, along with Tottenham Hotspur, are planning an attack to land him this summer.
In other news, Rod Marsh has claimed that Liverpool forward Daniel Sturridge has replaced Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney as the best English striker.
“Sturridge is head and shoulders above everybody at the moment. I didn’t think I would say that a couple of years ago,” Marsh is quoted by TalkSport.
Former Liverpool favourite Ian Rush has piled praise onto Sturridge’s strike partner Suarez, claiming the Uruguayan is in award winning form. Speaking at the launch of the 2014 Welsh Community Football Awards Rush said that Suarez was his ‘player of the year, for the entire year’.
