Bastian Schweinsteiger made a return to action for Bayern Munich last night in a cup game against Hamburg.
Bayern Munich vice-captain Bastian Schweinsteiger got 25 minutes of first team action as the German giants destroyed Hamburg 5-0 in the DFB Pokal.
Schweinsteiger has been forced to endure a frustrating season capped by injuries with muscle problems affecting him over the first chunk of the season before a more recent knee problem.
As far as Pep Guardiola is concerned, the experienced German returns at just the right time ahead of the Champions League last 16 first leg against Arsenal next week.
Bayern Munich have coped without Schweinsteiger for important matches this season but the magnitude of the game, the atmosphere and the fact Bayern are missing another star in Franck Ribery, means Guardiola could start Schweinsteiger against the Gunners.
Bayern have a home match against Freiburg this weekend, which represents another chance for Schweinsteiger to get some game time ahead of the Arsenal clash which will improve his fitness and increase his match sharpness.
It’s a case of wait and see but Bayern with Schweinsteiger are definitely a more daunting proposition for Arsenal than if he’s confined to the bench.
