United morning news: Moyes ‘wants £53m striker’ but suffers blow in Vidal chase

A select round-up of news relating to Manchester United

According to Goal, Manchester United have registered their interest in Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani.

The Uruguayan was rumoured to be on United’s radar in January, and the latest report claims David Moyes will make a real effort to sign him at the end of the current campaign.

With Wayne Rooney tipped to sign a new long-term contract at the club, and Juan Mata having only just arrived, Cavani’s arrival would raise serious questions over the future of Robin van Persie. But for now, you can file this one under “wait and see”, considering he only arrived in France for £53million last summer.

In other transfer news, United target Arturo Vidal has reportedly pledged his long-term future to current club Juventus.

The Chilean is regarded as one of the best all-round midfielders in world football, and Moyes was seen scouting the player earlier this season with a rumoured bid for both him and Paul Pogba on the cards.

However, the Daily Mail reports that Vidal has now pledged himself to the club until 2018, for a weekly wage of £200,000.

And finally, the Mirror reports that Moyes is ready for the long-game when it comes to the United job.

I was given a six-year contract because it was a long-term deal,” he is quoted as saying ahead of tonight’s match with Arsenal.

It was always going to take time. There is rebuilding going on year after year here, and we will continue to try to do that.”
