There will be at least 1 Man Utd player in a final this season—Anderson to the Coppa Italia version with Fiorentina. pic.twitter.com/oKOUOx58T0— Bleacher Report UK (@br_uk) febrero 11, 2014
The on-loan Fiorentina star has received a new lease of life since departing Manchester for sunny Florence during the January transfer window.
Manchester United boss David Moyes couldn’t find a use for Anderson, despite the Red Devils’ glaring midfield problems. After making just a handful of appearances in the Premier League, a change in scenery was the best option for all involved.
The newly named ‘Andow’ has since made two Serie A starts, and now has a chance of winning a major trophy within months of joining the club – a result of Fiorentina successfully overcoming Udinese in the Copa Italia Semi-Final.
Udinese held a slender 2-1 lead going into the second leg in Florence, yet a couple of stunning strikes – including an absolute belter from Arsenal linked star Juan Guillermo Cuadrado – gave the hosts a 2-0 victory and a place in the Copa Italia final in May.
Anderson however didn’t participate in the match, as he spent the 90 minutes watching on from the substitutes’ bench.
It will be difficult for the Brazilian to dislodge the Fiorentina midfield trio of David Pizarro, Matias Fernandez and former €20m Liverpool flop Alberto Aquilani – yet, some motivation and strong training sessions could see Anderson be given the opportunity to become Manchester United’s only major trophy winner at the end of the season.
Fiorentina’s opponent in the final will be the winner of Wednesday’s match-up between Roma and Napoli, but judging by Andow’s photograph after the game, the Brazilian’s only concern is to celebrate with his teammates.
