Reports in Belgium claim Marouane Fellaini will be asked to undertake a specially designed physical programme to ensure he is in peak condition for the World Cup.
The Manchester United midfielder has rarely featured since his £27.5million summer transfer from Everton, with back and wrist injuries keeping him out before a minor groin strain put his return date back slightly.
Now website HLN is reporting that Belgium head coach Marc Wilmots is going to visit a number of players in the weeks ahead, accompanied by physical trainer Mario Innaurato, to set them on a special fitness routine.
Other players reportedly involved in this programme include Tottenham’s Nacer Chadli and Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen.
Given that Fellaini has played only 15 club matches all season – and none since the game against his former club Everton on December 4 – it comes as no surprise that Wilmots wants to try everything possible to ensure he is fit in time for the tournament.
But David Moyes may have other ideas, with Fellaini’s contribution to what remains of United’s current campaign considerably more important for the Scot.
