Manchester City latest: Early team news, potential Cup boost & ex-player signs for Barnsley

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…

Manchester City face Sunderland this evening at the Etihad Stadium, knowing a win is vital to get them back on track after disappointing results against Chelsea and Norwich City.

In early team news, Manuel Pellegrini has said both Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho need one more week to return to full fitness. The Blues are also without Samir Nasri, Matija Nastasic and Javi Garcia.

Yaya Toure is available having not been charged for an alleged kick on Norwich’s Ricky van Wolfswinkel.

Sunderland are without the suspended Wes Brown, but have no other major concerns.

While City will be focused solely on tonight’s match, they may face Chelsea this weekend without Tim Cahill.

The England defender was outstanding for Jose Mourinho’s men against City earlier this month, but the former Bolton centre-back has injured his calf and is a doubt for the FA Cup match.

Considering how colossal Cahill was when the two sides met in the league, it will be a huge blow for Chelsea and a huge boost for City if he is unavailable.

And finally, the BBC reports that former City winger Dominic McHale has signed for Barnsley on an 18-month contract.

After his contract with the Blues was cancelled by mutual consent, the 17-year-old began training with Barnsley’s under-18 and under-21 teams.

He now has the chance to impress under the tutelage of Danny Wilson at Oakwell.
