Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal linked star: I turned down Russia move

AC Milan attacker Stephan El Shaarawy has admitted that he could have left the San Siro outfit in the summer.

Stephan El Shaarawy’s place in the Italy World Cup squad is under threat due to consistent injuries and a lack of playing time at AC Milan, and as such has been linked with a move away from the Serie A giants.

There have been plenty of Premier League suitors mentioned as potential destinations for the skillful attacker, with Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal all linked with him in the last 12 months.

However, El Shaarawy has spoken out about his future, stating that he opted not to leave San Siro for a move elsewhere in the summer.

“I had a big offer from Russia but I wanted to stay because I want to go big with this team,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“I have never felt excluded from the project. I have a great desire to return to play and do well.

“There was so much anger and pain because I had never before been out for so long. But do not think I’m gone.

“They were difficult months because I was out for a while, but now I’m recovering well and the foot is always getting better.”
