QPR's Joey Barton believes Arsenal's season could be over in by next week. Is he getting ahead of himself?
Never one to be afraid to share his opinion, Joey Barton is predicting Arsenal to finish trophyless once again.
Despite a 5-1 loss to Liverpool at the weekend, Arsenal could have reclaimed top spot in the Premier League with a win over Manchester United thanks to Chelsea's draw with West Brom.
In the end the Gunners could only accomplish a home draw themselves, and remain one point behind Chelsea, while Manchester City can leapfrog them with by winning their game in hand after their home fixture with Crystal Palace was called off.
So Arsenal have relinquished the initiative in the Premier League, there are plenty of twists and turns to come, but outspoken QPR midfielder Joey Barton thinks that could be it, while taking a dig at United too.
With an FA Cup game against Liverpool at the weekend and Bayern Munich visiting in the Champions League next week, this has not been the best way to start an important month.
Poor game that. Man United safe now. Champs League not happening. Arsenal's season could be over as well by next week.— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) February 12, 2014
Despite Barton's doom and gloom, even if the worst happens and Arsenal lose both cup ties, their season is likely to go down to the wire in the league.
Manchester City and Chelsea have both shown vulnerability of late, and the Gunners are very much in touch. If they can come through this month and March, the fixture list then begins to open up.
The title is still very much theirs for the taking, but they need to start playing like they believe it.
