Chelsea's latest midfield star: If we have a chance to be champs, we'll take it!

Nemanja Matic, re-signed by Chelsea in the mid-season transfer market, has spoken out over the title race involving Manchester City and Arsenal.

Chelsea new boy Nemanja Matic, 25, has spoken out over the race for the Premier League crown, hotly-contested between the Blues, Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool.

The Stamford Bridge side appeared to gain an advantage in the division after their 1-0 victory over City, which they then capitalised on by convincingly downing Newcastle United by a 3-0 score courtesy of an Eden Hazard hat-trick. However, they recently dropped points away to West Bromwich Albion and, should the Gunners and City both claim victories in their respective games this evening, then Chelsea will slip back to third place.

'I said after the Man City game that we'll fight until the end of the season,' Matic said to the club's official website. 'We need to take it game by game and play as well as we can in order to win matches. At the end of the season we'll see if we can be champions.'

Chelsea have a dozen matches left in their football calendar for the Premier League, have a tricky home game against Everton coming up, ahead of other clashes they can potentially gain another advantage in like they did over City, such as the West London bout with Arsenal on March 22.

'We always believe, we just try to improve and give our best. We have a young team, we are not favourites but if we have a chance to be champions we want to take it.'

Matic has improved markedly since leaving Chelsea in 2011 and re-joining in 2014: 'I'm very happy and I think I can improve a lot here. Every game is difficult and in every game you have to be fully concentrated. It's a good opportunity for me to show my quality.'
