A round up of this morning’s news stories about Arsenal.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has leapt to the defence of under fire German Mesut Ozil.

Ozil has been accused of going missing for the club in recent weeks, especially in last weekend’s defeat against Liverpool.

“He didn’t have the best of games on Saturday, but that can happen. He works very hard to adapt to the physical level of the Premier League and for me he is an exceptional player,” said the Frenchman.

Arsenal very nearly sealed a deal for Chelsea superstar Eden Hazard according to L’Equipe.

The Belgian was linked with several clubs before finally committing to a move to Stamford Bridge.

“Arsenal was also very close to finalizing the transfer of Eden Hazard, but the player opted for Chelsea in the final straight,” reads a report from the French source.

Arsenal have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of FC Schalke star Max Meyer.

The teenager has indicated that he’s not willing to talk about his future, hinting that he’s staying put on the advice of former Germany star Gunter Netzer.

“If Mr Netzer say that, it is probably right. I can't tell you anything. You will have to ask other people,” he told Welt.
