Arsene Wenger does not rule out shock move for Manchester United man

Arsene Wenger has refused to comment on reports linking Manchester United striker Robin van Persie with a return to Arsenal.

A few weeks ago, the internet was rife with reports linking Robin van Persie with an unlikely but potentially sensational return to Arsenal.

The Mail on Sunday claimed that the Dutch striker could return to the Gunners if Wayne Rooney agreed a new long-term deal at Old Trafford, and if Arsene Wenger was prepared to pay in the region of £15million for a player they sold for £24million.

It is understood he would love to re-join the Gunners,” the report claimed.

The story appeared to come out of nowhere, and just as quickly it was gone, but the Metro is now reporting on quotes from Wenger, in response to a question about his former front-man.

As Arsenal prepare to face United in a vital Premier League match on Wednesday evening, the Frenchman reportedly said, “I don’t think it’s the best time to talk about that.”

Of course it isn’t. For now the only thing Wenger will have on his mind is getting a performance out of his players after their 5-1 defeat to Liverpool last Saturday.

But in refusing to dismiss the rumours out of hand, Wenger has only increased them.
