A select round-up of news relating to Manchester United

Ex-Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane believes his former side needs to sign at least five quality players to get back to their former glory.

Speaking to ITV, Keane said, “I think Man United need five or six players. If it happens in the summer then instead of being fearful of it, embrace it, it’s exciting. These can be exciting times for Man United. Get them back to the very top where they belong.”

United fans will certainly hope that is the case, but one player they are unlikely to sign is Paul Pogba, who is reportedly on the verge of agreeing a new deal with current club Juventus.

The former United midfielder has previously been linked with a big-money return. But it was always an unlikely move and the Mirror reports that Pogba’s agent is set for talks over an extension that will run until 2018.

And finally, ESPN follows up on initial reports that Rio Ferdinand is set to miss United’s warm weather training camp.

The club are set to depart for the Middle East on Thursday – using the free-time they will have by no longer being involved in the FA Cup.

But according to claims in the Sun, Ferdinand will not be joining them.
