Vlad Chiriches is set to miss a sizeable chunk of the remainder of the season through an ongoing back ailment.
Of the seven summer signings to arrive at White Hart Lane in the off-season, Vlad Chiriches is one that has split the Tottenham fanbase’s opinion.
At times seemingly capable of excellent reading of the game and confident in possession, the Romania international was excellent in Spurs’ win against Manchester United at Old Trafford earlier this term.
However, calamity moments never seem to far away, with Chiriches guilty of giving the ball away in dangerous areas and sometimes displaying questionable positional sense. This was painstakingly evident in Spurs’ frustrating home draw with West Brom.
The eastern European defender has been on the sidelines for the last couple of weeks with a back injury, and reports in the British press today suggest that Tim Sherwood is set to be without the defender for significantly longer.
The Mirror state that Chiriches faces another six weeks on the treatment table, as his back injury is worse than originally anticipated.
Spurs have welcomed back Jan Vertongen and Younes Kaboul from injury, but another knock to a centre-half could leave Sherwood’s rearguard lacking strength in depth.
